Motor Vehicle Crash with Rollover
(Turner's Garage on People's Road)
At 7:02AM on March 20th, 2007 with icy road conditions present, County Dispatch received a call for a Jeep
Liberty that rolled over near People's Road and Babcock Boulevard. The caller reported all occupants out of the vehicle but
fluids on the roadway. County advised Norcom (Ross/West EMS dispatch center), and Stations 246 (Evergreen), and 254
(Ross Township Fire Police). 246 Engine 2 came enroute with 6 members, non-emergency. While enroute Ross Police arrived,
and confirmed no entrapment, and EMS took a disregard. However, the officer did advise the Liberty had gone into Turner's Garage,
and that the garage had smoke showing. 246 Engine 2 arrived shortly thereafter, confirmed smoke showing, and 246 Assistant Chief
(Tom Mann) assumed 246 Command. Interior crews investigated and found a light smoke condition inside, and checked with our
thermal imaging camera, and found high heat reading around a microwave. It was determined that during the crash the microwave
had been kicked on, and burnt something inside of it causing the smoke. Seeing no other hazards Assistant Chief Mann returned
246 Engine 2, and held 254 Fire Police on the scene to await the tow truck. 254 units remained on scene for another 20-25
minutes prior to the tow arriving.
