4570 McKnight Road

On the Evening of May 22nd, 2007, Evergreen was training at the Ross Park Mall Training

Tower, when Allegheny County 911 began receiving numerous calls about a possible residential

structure fire in the area of McKnight Rd, and Nelson Run Rd. County 911 filled the structure

assignment alerting Stations 246 (Evergreen), 247 (Berkeley Hills), 252 (Keating), 254 (Ross Fire Police),

251RIT (Seville), 510 (Ross Fire Marshall), and EMS Station 211 (Ross / West View EMS). 246 Engine 2,

246 Engine 1, and 246 Chief (Jeff Giger), all came in service seconds after the dispatch. 247 Engine 1, 247 Truck,

and 247 Chief (Paul Hill) were the first arriving units and arrived to find an abandoned structure with heavy fire

showing on all four sides. 246 Chief (Jeff Giger) arrived next and assumed McKnight Road Command. He ordered

Fire Police to completely shut down McKnight at Siebert, and at Nelson Run Rd. He also ordered 246 Engine 2

to lay their 5"supply line into 247 Engine 1. 246 Engine 2 laid over 1600' up McKnight Rd to supply 247 Engine 1,

who had multiple hand lines pulled to begin fire suppression. 246 Engine 2 also supplied 247 Truck as well. As

attack crews went to work 251 Chief (Joe Gross) requested Station 239 (Mount Troy) be added as a supplemental

RIT team. Crews worked for about 2-3 hours to bring the blaze under control. The Ross Township Fire Marshall

is currently investigating the cause of the fire. Units began clearing around 11:30PM. The last 246 units were clear

of the scene by about 1:00AM.
